Cultural Advisory
Supporting thoughtful collaboration across cultures, languages, and creative practices.
I provide cultural advisory, research, Japanese–English cultural language support, and international project coordination for the performing arts, film, design, education, and cross-cultural professional settings.
My work focuses on helping teams examine cultural assumptions, understand relevant historical and social contexts, communicate across differences, and make more informed decisions throughout the creative or collaborative process.
Cultural consultation through intellectual humility and collaborative inquiry. Rather than claiming to represent an entire culture or offer definitive answers, I help identify questions, explore perspectives, and recognise when further research or consultation with relevant specialists and community members may be needed.
Services
1. Cultural Research & Advisory
Research and consultation for creative projects, organisations, and educational programmes engaging with cultural representation and cross-cultural contexts.
-
Cultural and historical research for theatre, film, costume, design, and visual storytelling
-
Consultation on cultural references, clothing, visual representation, and contextual interpretation
-
Review of creative concepts and materials from a cultural perspective
-
Identification of assumptions, potential sensitivities, and areas requiring further research
-
Research notes, reference materials, and recommendations to support decision-making
2. Cross-cultural Communication & Facilitation
Support for individuals and teams working across cultural, linguistic, and professional differences.
-
Facilitation of cross-cultural discussions and collaborative workshops
-
Support for communication between international creative teams and organisations
-
Assistance in clarifying expectations, responsibilities, and differing interpretations
-
Meeting facilitation, bilingual documentation, and follow-up communication
-
Support for reflective dialogue in educational and professional settings
Approach
Curiosity before certainty. Dialogue before assumptions. Collaboration without claiming to speak for others.
Cross-cultural work does not require us to fully understand another person's experience. It does require us to recognise the limits of our own understanding, remain open to questions, and create conditions in which people can communicate without being expected to explain or represent an entire culture.
I aim to support processes in which cultural differences can be explored with care, questions can remain open where necessary, and creative and professional decisions can be made with greater awareness.

Working Together
Each project has its own cultural, linguistic, and practical requirements. Services can be commissioned individually or combined into a tailored package, depending on the project's scope, duration, participants, and objectives.
Please get in touch to discuss your project, the support you need, and a suitable scope of work.
Note: Cultural advisory is intended to support research, dialogue, and informed decision-making. It does not constitute a claim to represent any entire culture or community, nor does it replace specialist legal advice or consultation with relevant cultural experts where required.
